And I thought the San Diego Union-Tribune was a conservative newspaper. This is what it reported today in part on the John Albert Gardner III Case:
"The report notes that Gardner’s uncle, stepfather and father 'are all alcoholics,' that his father spanked him with a belt and that Gardner 'felt that he went over the line to abusiveness.'
"It also says that Gardner said his relationship with his mother 'is somewhat strained at times because they share a small apartment and get on each other’s nerves.'
"Gardner’s mother is a registered nurse, according to state records. She is also the legislative committee chairwoman of the California Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, according to its newsletters. In April, she protested state mental health care funding cuts during a walk in San Diego to raise money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness."

If we don't stop victims from becoming predators, they will be predators! Case in point; the Union-Tribune said that Gardner's uncle, father, and stepfather were all "alcoholics". Make that BIPOLAR AND SCHIZOID. Many alcoholics are also bipolar and schizoid and they'll drink to self-medicate. Albeit, there's no cure for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, Gardner's uncle, father, and stepfather should have been stopped a long time ago, and Gardner should have gotten the counseling he needed. Instead, he molests a kid in 2000, then on parole he is not given any mental health screening, and finally he kills Chelsea King, Amber Dubois, and who knows who else. The very lame approach of locking up predators and even executing some of them ain't going to stop anybody else from being a predator. Conservatives like to ASS-U-ME that everybody is a normal person on the street. They're not. Assholes like Phillip Garrido held Jaycee Dugard for 18 years, but otherwise he was loonier than Bozo the Clown. Either we get to them while they were victims or we will suffer the consequences.

There could have been money to have Gardner treated through either his Parole, or his mother could have tried to get him the services he needed, instead of Gardner running up and down the Escondido Freeway for victims. If no money is raised and spent for the people in need, it's time to
